The Death Star is gone. Above the forest moon of Endor, the sky, once choked with laser fire and TIE-fighter wreckage, now rains down ion energy and glittering debris. As the Ewoks and Wookies dance beneath the falling light, the Empire lies in ruins.

But this isn’t just a story about “hokey religions and ancient weapons.” It’s a metaphor for the high-stakes battle between American racetracks and Real Estate developers.

The Developers’ Death Star

For over a decade, developers (the Sith) have been encroaching on our territory. They buy land next to established tracks, build sprawling luxury subdivisions (the Death Star), and fill them with tenants (Stormtroopers). Then, like clockwork, these new residents complain about the noise until the city forces the track to go dark.

For a long time, the Rebels were losing. We watched our “safe spaces” vanish as homeowners, fueled by “haterade,” lobbied to shut us down. Ironically, those same people are the first to complain when street drifting, highway racing, or “take-overs” delay their dinner reservations. They kill the tracks, then wonder why the racing moved to the streets.

A New Hope in Banks County

But for the first time in an age, the Rebels just scored a massive win.

Last week, the Banks County Board of Commissioners made a decision that sent shockwaves through the Atlanta car scene. In a unanimous vote to conditionally re-open the Atlanta Dragway, the Board essentially fired a pair of proton torpedoes straight into the exhaust port of the Residents lobbying. The Death Star has been neutralized.

Return of the Solo

This victory hits home for us. Longtime fans will remember when our founders, Boris, Tony, and Harold, would pull up to the strip for Test & Tune nights, smoking everything in the adjacent lane. From standing half-mile records to countless drag strip trophies, Solo Motorsports built its reputation on the track.

With the Atlanta Dragway roaring back to life, you can bet your last galactic credit that we’ll be out there taking advantage of the win. And now, with our specialized performance and dyno tuning packages, you can join us in the winner’s circle.

The war isn’t over, but today, the Rebels are on top. See you at the starting line.

Car modding has always been about creativity, problem-solving, and making something your own. For decades, that meant hunting down rare parts, paying for custom fabrication, or settling for “close enough.” Enter 3D printing, a technology that’s quietly becoming one of the most powerful tools in modern car modification. From custom interior pieces to functional engine bay components, 3D printing is giving enthusiasts more control than ever before. Let’s take a look at why you should be utilizing 3D printed car mods.

What Makes 3D Printing a Game-Changer for Modders?

At its core, 3D printing allows you to create physical parts from digital designs. That means if you can design it or download it, you can make it. For car enthusiasts, this opens the door to solutions that simply didn’t exist before. Instead of adapting your build to fit off-the-shelf parts, you can now build parts that fit your car perfectly. Giving you custom parts without custom-shop prices.

One of the biggest advantages of 3D printing is cost. Traditional custom fabrication often requires:

  • Specialized tools

  • Skilled labor

  • Long turnaround times

With 3D printing, you can produce:

  • Interior trim pieces

  • Gauge pods

  • Switch panels

  • Badge deletes and emblems

  • Wire management clips and brackets

All for a fraction of the cost of CNC machining or one-off fabrication. Even if you don’t own a printer, local print shops and online services make it easy to bring designs to life.

Perfect Fit for Hard-to-Find or Discontinued Parts

Anyone who’s owned an older or niche vehicle knows the pain of discontinued parts. Broken vent clips, cracked trim, missing brackets; small pieces can sideline a build. in these situations, 3D printed car mods can be the solution you never considered.

3D printing lets you:

  • Recreate broken plastic components

  • Improve weak factory designs

  • Modify OEM parts for better durability

Scan an original piece, redesign it stronger, and print a replacement that installs like factory, sometimes better than factory.

Functional Mods, Not Just Cosmetic

3D printing isn’t limited to interior flair. With the right materials, it can be used for real performance applications.

Popular functional prints include:

  • Intake ducts and air guides

  • Sensor mounts

  • Brake cooling ducts

  • Battery and ECU mounts

Modern filaments like nylon, carbon fiber–reinforced composites, and high-temp plastics are strong, lightweight, and heat resistant enough for under-hood use when designed correctly. And when it comes to designing, rapid prototyping means faster builds.

One of the most overlooked benefits of 3D printing is speed. Instead of waiting weeks for a custom part, you can prototype in hours.

Design → Print → Test → Revise.

If something doesn’t fit perfectly, tweak the file and print again the same day. This rapid iteration makes it easier to experiment, refine ideas, and dial in parts before committing to final materials.

Cleaner Installs and Better Organization

A well-modded car isn’t just fast, it’s clean.

3D printing helps with:

  • Hidden wiring solutions

  • Custom mounting points

  • Flush-fit panels and covers

The result is an engine bay or interior that looks intentional, professional, and thoughtfully designed rather than pieced together.

Community-Driven Innovation

The 3D printing modding community is growing fast. Enthusiasts are sharing designs for:

  • Popular platforms

  • Specific engine swaps

  • Interior upgrades

  • Track-focused solutions

Online repositories and forums make it easy to build on existing designs or tweak them for your exact setup. Modding becomes more collaborative and more creative.

Where 3D Printing Fits in the Future of Car Mods

3D printing won’t replace traditional fabrication, machining, or performance parts; but it fills the gaps better than anything else ever has.

Over the next few years, expect to see:

  • More aftermarket companies offering printable accessories

  • Stronger, more heat-resistant materials

  • Hybrid builds combining printed parts with metal fabrication

For enthusiasts, that means fewer compromises and more freedom to build exactly what you envision.

Final Thoughts

3D printing puts the power of customization back in the hands of car enthusiasts. Whether you’re fixing a small annoyance, creating a one-off interior piece, or solving a packaging problem no off-the-shelf part can handle, it’s a tool worth having in your modding arsenal. But don’t just take our word for it; take a look below at the Turbo Manifold a friend of ours prototyped with his 3D printer before having a company produce the final product in metal for him:

A BMW E30 Is More Than Just a Project

There’s something about a vintage European car that just pulls you in. It’s not about chasing numbers or building something for attention, it’s about the connection. A car like the BMW E30 represents a time when driving felt simple, mechanical, and real. Restoring one isn’t just about fixing an old car. It’s about bringing something back that deserves to be on the road.

It Creates a Real Connection

Why do people fall in love with restorations? When you restore a car, you don’t just own it; you understand it. Every part, every decision, every upgrade becomes personal. You know how it drives because you helped shape how it drives. An E30 isn’t trying to impress you. It rewards you for paying attention. Once restored, driving a classic BMW hits differently. The steering is honest. The chassis feels balanced. There’s no filter between you and the road. It reminds you why you got into cars in the first place. It’s not about being the fastest; it’s about enjoying every mile. The driving experience feels earned

There’s Pride in Doing It the Right Way

Seeing a vintage car come back to life the right way is one of the most rewarding parts of the process. Clean engine bay. Tight suspension. Everything working the way it should. That moment when the car fires up after a full restoration? That never gets old. Cars like the E30 are getting harder to find in good condition. Restoring one helps preserve a piece of automotive history. Whether you keep it stock or add subtle upgrades, you’re keeping a classic alive; and that matters.

Where Solo Motorsports Comes In

At Solo Motorsports, restoration isn’t about overbuilding or cutting corners. It’s about balance. Using factory-correct replacement parts where it matters. High-quality components where reliability and performance can be improved. Proper fluids. Proper service. No guesswork. Whether it’s refreshing suspension, sorting drivability issues, or helping guide the direction of a full build, Solo Motorsports focuses on making the car better without losing what made it special in the first place. That’s how you end up with a car you actually want to drive.

The Emotional Side No One Talks About

Restoring a car teaches patience. It teaches appreciation. You start to notice details you never cared about before: how the doors shut, how the car settles into a corner, how it sounds at certain RPMs. And when it’s done, you don’t just see a finished car. You see the work, the time, and the memories tied to it. That’s what makes it worth it.

Why the BMW E30 Still Makes Sense

The E30 is one of those platforms that just feels right. Simple, balanced, and timeless. When restored properly, it becomes something you’ll want to keep; not flip or replace, just enjoy. With the right approach and the right shop behind it, a vintage European car doesn’t feel old. It feels intentional. And that’s what restoration is really about.

From high-performance racing to luxury show cars, custom wheels are the ultimate blend of engineering and art. While mass-produced wheels are cast in thousands, custom manufacturing focuses on precision, strength, and personalization.

Solo Motorsports has now expanded their expertise beyond world-class tuning and repair to offer full bespoke wheel manufacturing. They work directly with enthusiasts to bridge the gap between imagination and engineering, helping customers create their “perfect fantasy wheel” from the ground up.

1. The Design Phase: Turning Fantasy into Reality

The process begins with a vision. Whether you have a hand-drawn sketch or a specific aesthetic in mind, the journey starts with a deep consultation. At Solo Motorsports, this means discussing not just the look, but also the goals; be it track performance, a “slammed” show stance, or unique brake clearance for a big-brake kit.

Engineers use CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software to transform these ideas into a 3D model. Unlike factory wheels, these are engineered for a specific vehicle’s fender alignment and load rating. Before any metal is cut, the design undergoes Finite Element Analysis (FEA), a digital stress test that simulates real-world impacts to ensure the design is as safe as it is stylish.

2. Choosing the Construction

Depending on your budget and performance needs, you can choose from three primary builds:

  • Monoblock (1-Piece): Carved from a single solid cylinder. These are the lightest and stiffest options, ideal for racing.
  • 2-Piece: Features a separate center face and a barrel, allowing for specialized offsets.
  • 3-Piece: The pinnacle of customization. With a center face, inner lip, and outer lip bolted together, you can mix and match finishes and widths with extreme precision.

3. The Forging Process

The foundation of a premium custom wheel is 6061-T6 aluminum. Rather than “casting” (pouring molten metal into a mold), custom wheels are “forged.” A solid billet of aluminum is subjected to extreme heat and up to 10,000 tons of pressure. This process creates a much denser grain structure, allowing the wheel to be significantly thinner and lighter than a cast wheel without sacrificing structural integrity.

4. CNC Machining

Once the forged “blank” is ready, it enters a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) lathe.

  1. Lathe Turning: The blank is spun at high speeds to create the basic round profile.
  2. Milling: A high-speed drill bit carves out the intricate “fantasy” design: the spokes, lug holes, and weight-reduction pockets; exactly as approved in the 3D rendering.

5. Surface Finishing

This is where the artistic vision truly comes to life. Solo Motorsports offers virtually infinite finishing options to match a customer’s specific color palette:

  • Powder Coating: Durable, heat-cured colors in matte, satin, or gloss.
  • Brushing & Polishing: Hand-prepped textures that highlight the natural grain of the aluminum.
  • Anodizing: An electrochemical process that dyes the metal while keeping its metallic sheen.

6. Assembly and Testing

For multi-piece wheels, technicians hand-assemble the components using aerospace-grade hardware, torqued to exact specifications. Every wheel undergoes a Runout Test to ensure it is perfectly round within fractions of a millimeter, eliminating any potential for vibration.

Comparison: Custom Forged vs. Standard Cast

Feature Cast Wheels Solo Motorsports Custom Forged
Construction Molten Pour Solid Forged 6061-T6 Billet
Strength Standard Extremely High (Motorsport Grade)
Weight Heavier Lightweight / Performance Optimized
Design Off-the-shelf Fully Bespoke “Fantasy” Designs

The whispers started as rumors, grew into fervent hopes, and finally coalesced into reality: the BMW M5 G99 Wagon is here. A high-performance station wagon from Bavaria, coming to North America for the first time; it’s already a unicorn in the automotive world. But there is a version of this ultimate daily driver that transcends mere rarity: the BMW M5 Touring in Dakar Yellow.

This combination isn’t just a car; it’s a defiant statement, a vibrant nod to BMW M history, and a piece of rolling exclusivity that makes it one of the most special vehicles on the road today.

The Rarity of the G99 M5 Touring

First, let’s establish why the BMW M5 G99 Wagon is rare in its own right. Historically, the M5 Touring has been a fleeting pleasure:

  • E34 Generation: Only 891 units were produced.
  • E61 Generation (V10): A mere 1,025 units were made.

These low production figures turned the previous M5 Tourings into instant collector’s items. The G99, while expected to be more popular, is still a Touring model; a niche within a high-performance segment.

In a world dominated by SUVs, an M-car wagon is an enthusiast’s choice, a knowing wink to those who appreciate that ultimate blending of practicality, luxury, and supercar-shaming power (717 hp from the M Hybrid V8 system, by the way). This is a heavy-hitting performance car that can haul the kids, the dog, and a week’s worth of luggage at warp speed.

🎨 The Significance of Dakar Yellow

Now, let’s talk about color. While the BMW M5 G99 Wagon is available in a host of factory and Individual shades, Dakar Yellow (color code 337) is where the magic happens.

Dakar Yellow is not just a bright color; it is a heritage color deeply ingrained in the BMW M legend.

  • A Blast from the Past: Dakar Yellow rose to fame on the legendary E36 M3. It was the quintessential ’90s M color: bold, aggressive, and impossible to ignore. Choosing Dakar Yellow on a modern M car is a deliberate act of reverence for the golden era of BMW M design.
  • The Individual Touch: Dakar Yellow is part of the coveted BMW Individual palette, a selection of unique colors that require a special ordering and approval process. This immediately separates the car from the standard shades. The final production number of G99 M5 Tourings in this specific hue will be minuscule, It’s the only one globally currently; making it a true 1-of-1 car.

💻 The Digital Transformation: ECU and TCU Tuning

The G99 M5 Touring utilizes a highly sophisticated M Hybrid V8 (S68) engine, factory-limited by parameters designed to meet global emissions standards and preserve a conservative factory warranty window. ECU (Engine Control Unit) and TCU (Transmission Control Unit) tuning unlocks the true, aggressive potential of this powerhouse. Unlocked by Femto, and remote tuned; Our custom SMS tune will allow the new mods to bring power to the forefront of this wagon’s brain.

ECU Tuning (Engine Performance)

  • Increased Power Output: The factory 717 hp is merely a starting point. ECU remaps strategically increase the boost pressure from the twin-turbochargers, optimize the fuel delivery (air-to-fuel ratio), and advance ignition timing. This typically pushes the S68 engine into the 800+ horsepower range, unleashing substantial gains in both horsepower and torque.
  • Sharpened Throttle Response: Factory software can often feel slightly subdued, prioritizing comfort. A tune refines the electronic throttle map, eliminating lag and providing a more immediate, linear, and visceral response to driver input.
  • Optimization for Mods: Crucially, a proper ECU tune is necessary to maximize the benefits of the aftermarket downpipes and intakes, ensuring the engine safely capitalizes on the increased airflow and reduced back pressure.

TCU Tuning (Gearbox Performance)

The G99 M5 uses a highly capable ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, but the factory programming is conservative. TCU tuning elevates its performance to match the engine’s new ferocity.

  • Faster, Firmer Shifts: The tuning reduces the shift time significantly, providing near-instantaneous gear changes that translate directly into faster acceleration times. The shifts become noticeably more aggressive and direct, especially in Sport+ or manual modes.
  • Increased Torque Limits: The factory TCU software imposes torque limits, especially in lower gears, to protect the drivetrain. Since ECU tuning massively increases engine torque, the TCU tune is essential to raise these limits, allowing the full power to be delivered through the gears without intervention.
  • Optimized Launch Control: The car’s Launch Control system can be optimized for higher RPM launches and better traction management, allowing the tuned wagon to make the most of its all-wheel-drive system for brutally quick takeoffs.

In short, the tuning is the harmonizer. It takes the added mechanical aggression from the hardware (exhaust, intake) and the sharpened dynamics from the suspension, and ties them together with explosive, seamless power delivery.

The Numbers:

Creating power out of a machine like the M5 takes some fine tuning. Luckily Solo Motorsports now offers Remote tuning. So if you’re reading this from Latvia, don’t worry; we can still tune your car. Below are some Dyno Graphs that show exactly what these mods and our SMS tune are capable of. Keep in mind, this is reliable power… not blow your engine to Mars power. The 93 octane tune saw about 100+ horsepower over stock on our Mustang Dyno.

🚀 Unleashing the Beast: Hardware Upgrades

With the software now optimized, the physical upgrades combine to create a bespoke driving experience.

Upgrade Functional/Aesthetic Change Impact on the Vehicle
Eventuri Carbon Intakes Improves airflow into the M Hybrid V8. Induction Sound & Efficiency: Adds a deep, satisfying induction “whoosh” and improves thermal efficiency for denser, cooler air.
Evolution Racewerks Downpipes & Valvetronic Exhaust Replaces restrictive components and adds controlled sound via valves. V8 Sound & Power: Drastically transforms the exhaust note from subdued to a ferocious roar, adding significant power by removing major flow restrictions.
AST Lowering Springs Reduces the gap between the tire and the fender; lowers the center of gravity. Handling & Stance: Creates an aggressive, squat stance and improves handling by reducing body roll, making the heavy wagon feel more agile.
SMS Carbon CF Hood Replaces the heavy factory hood with a lightweight composite panel. Aesthetics & Weight: A bold visual statement. Sheds weight from the highest point of the car, slightly benefiting handling and acceleration.

✨ A Symphony of Exclusivity

The Dakar Yellow G99 M5 Touring, modified with performance hardware and optimized with software tuning, is no longer just a rare factory car; it is a meticulously engineered, personalized masterpiece.

  1. Rarity of the Model: It’s an M5 Wagon: the ultimate sleeper.
  2. Rarity of the Color: It’s painted in a highly coveted Individual Heritage Color.
  3. Personalized Performance: It features a select suite of hardware and ECU/TCU tunes that push its hybrid V8 well into supercar power territory while transforming its sound, stance, and driving dynamics.

This Dakar Yellow M5 Touring is a pure enthusiast’s dream: functional, ferocious, and visually defiant. It is a genuine 1-of-1, a vibrant testament to the owner’s passion for speed, heritage, and uncompromising performance.

The Georgia Winter Driving Challenge

While Georgia might not experience the deep snows of the Northeast, the winter months, especially from late December through late February, present a unique set of challenges for drivers. The key to safe and controlled driving during this period isn’t just about snow and ice; it’s about temperature, and that’s where the importance of good tires becomes absolutely critical. Georgia’s winter is characterized by significant temperature fluctuations. While daytime highs might hover in the 50s and 60s, overnight and early morning temperatures consistently drop, often falling well below 45°F and sometimes dipping into the 20s or lower. Lets look at some Essential Winter Tire Tips to help you survive!

Here’s why those cold temperatures matter for your tires:

  • The 45 Degree Threshold: The rubber compound in standard all-season or summer tires begins to stiffen significantly when the temperature drops below 45°F. This loss of flexibility reduces their ability to grip the pavement, which directly impacts your steering, acceleration, and, most critically, your braking distance.
  • The Black Ice Threat: With lows in the 30s and below, Georgia roads are susceptible to black ice. A thin, nearly invisible layer of ice that forms on the pavement. Even the rare, light snow or freezing rain can create slick, dangerous conditions, particularly on bridges and overpasses.
  • The Need for Flexibility: Unlike all-season tires, true Winter Tires (often called Snow Tires) are made with specialized rubber compounds that remain flexible and pliable in cold temperatures, even well below freezing. This flexibility allows the tire to conform to the road surface, maintaining optimal traction.

Winter Tire Technology: More Than Just Tread

Winter tires are engineered for cold-weather performance in ways that far surpass standard tires.

  • Specialized Rubber Compound: Contains a higher percentage of natural rubber and silica, preventing the material from hardening in the cold.
  • Deeper Tread Depth: Provides enhanced grip and the ability to better evacuate snow and slush.
  • Siping: These are the tiny, high-density slits cut into the tread blocks. They act like thousands of small biting edges, creating better grip on slick surfaces like ice and packed snow.

For the Georgia driver, even if you opt for high-quality all-season tires, it’s essential to ensure they are in excellent condition with adequate tread depth to handle wet, cold, and occasionally icy pavement from December through February.

Solo Motorsports: Your Winter Tire Experts

Navigating the various tire options, from high-performance all-season to dedicated winter tires, can be overwhelming. This is where the specialists at Solo Motorsports can provide essential, professional guidance.

1. Expert Tire Selection

The team at Solo Motorsports understands the nuances of Georgia’s climate and can help you select the ideal tire for your vehicle and driving habits. Whether you need a top-tier all-season radial with excellent cold-weather ratings or a dedicated winter performance tire for maximum safety, they stock or can order a wide range of popular name brands. They ensure your chosen tires meet the required specifications for your vehicle’s make and model.

2. Professional Installation and Balancing

Proper tire installation is non-negotiable for safety and performance. Solo Motorsports offers professional tire mounting and balancing services. Their technicians use advanced, modern equipment to ensure your tires are mounted correctly, even for low-profile or stretched fitments, and are precisely balanced to prevent vibration and ensure a smooth ride.

3. Precision Wheel Alignment for Tire Longevity

The final, and perhaps most critical, step for getting the best life and performance out of your new tires is a professional wheel alignment.

  • What is an Alignment? Alignment refers to the adjustment of your vehicle’s suspension, which connects the vehicle to the wheels. It ensures your wheels sit at the correct angle (Camber, Caster, and Toe) relative to the road and to each other.
  • Why You Need It: A misaligned vehicle can wear out a brand-new set of tires in as little as 10,000 miles. By having Solo Motorsports perform a precision wheel alignment after installing new tires, you ensure that:
    • Tire Life is Maximized: Alignment promotes even wear across the tire tread.
    • Handling is Improved: Your car drives straight and responds accurately to steering inputs.
    • Safety is Enhanced: Proper alignment improves stability, especially during emergency braking or sudden maneuvers on slick winter roads.

Solo Motorsports uses advanced tools to perform accurate adjustments, getting your vehicle’s suspension angles restored to their correct measurements for optimal safety and performance all winter long. Don’t wait until the first unexpected patch of black ice in January to think about your tires. Ensure your vehicle is ready to handle the cold, wet, and occasionally icy conditions of a Georgia winter. Contact Solo Motorsports today to get the right tires installed and aligned for a safe and confident driving experience.

Which Upgrade Deserves Your Cash First?

You’ve finally done it. You bought the project car, or maybe you’ve just paid off your daily driver and you’re ready to start tinkering. You have a burning desire to modify your vehicle and a hole in your pocket where your savings used to be. Now you face the enthusiast’s oldest dilemma: Do you make it fast, or do you make it handle? It is the classic battle of Suspension vs. Power first. While the temptation to chase high horsepower numbers is strong, the “right” answer might not be the one you want to hear. Let’s break down the pros, the cons, and the strategy to build a car that is actually fun to drive.

The Allure of Power: The “Dyno Queen” Route

Let’s be honest; power is intoxicating. There is nothing quite like the feeling of being pinned to your seat, the sound of a turbo spooling, or the roar of an uncorked exhaust.

Why we want it first:

  • Bragging Rights: It’s much cooler to say “I’m pushing 800 wheel horsepower” than “I have adjustable dampening.”
  • Instant Gratification: You feel power immediately in a straight line. Traffic light to traffic light, power rules.
  • The Sound: Intake and exhaust mods (often the first step in power adders) make the car sound aggressive.

The Downside

If you add 100 horsepower to a car with stock, sloppy suspension and cheap tires, you haven’t built a race car; you’ve built a missile with no guidance system. High power in a car that can’t put it to the ground results in wheel spin, torque steer, and a chassis that feels terrifying rather than exciting.

The Reality Check: A fast engine in a slow chassis is only fun for about 10 seconds at a time. After that, you have to turn the steering wheel.

The Case for Suspension: The “Driver’s Car” Route

Suspension upgrades: coilovers, lowering springs, sway bars, and bushings; are often unsexy. You can’t see them easily, and they don’t make cool noises. However, they transform the character of the car.

Why it should (probably) be your first choice:

  • Confidence: A tighter chassis communicates better with the driver. You feel what the car is doing, which encourages you to push harder.
  • Cornering Speed: You can carry more speed through corners. In a canyon run or on a track day, a Miata with suspension work will often embarrass a Mustang with 300 more horsepower simply because the Miata doesn’t have to slow down for the turns.
  • Aesthetics: Let’s not pretend looks don’t matter. Lowering the car to remove that unsightly wheel gap makes the vehicle look aggressive and planted, even when parked.
  • Safety: Better suspension usually means less body roll and better stability during emergency maneuvers.

The Verdict: Build the Foundation First

If you ask seasoned racers or veteran tuners, the consensus is almost unanimous: Upgrade the Suspension (and Brakes/Tires) First.

Think of your car like a bodybuilder. Adding a massive turbo without upgrading the suspension is like a bodybuilder who skips leg day. You have a massive upper body (engine) supported by tiny, wobbly legs (chassis). It looks unbalanced, and it will eventually topple over.

The “Handling First” Roadmap

By prioritizing suspension, you prepare the chassis to handle the power you will add later. When you finally do install that supercharger or tune, your car will be ready to translate that energy into forward motion rather than tire smoke and terrifying body roll.

The Holy Trinity of the “First Mod”

If you are ready to spend, ignore the cold air intake for a moment and look at this trinity:

  1. Tires: The single most important component. They are the only thing touching the road.
  2. Brake Pads/Fluid: You need to stop as fast as you go.
  3. Coilovers/Springs: Lower center of gravity and stiffer spring rates.

Summary: A Side-by-Side Comparison

Feature Power Upgrades First Suspension Upgrades First
Fun Factor High (in straight lines) High (in corners)
Drivability Can make the car jerky/unpredictable Makes the car sharper/responsive
Safety Increases risk if uncontrolled Increases control and stability
Visual Appeal None (unless hood is open) High (improved stance)
Cost Efficiency Expensive ($$$ per HP) Moderate (High impact per $)

Final Thoughts

It requires discipline to spend $2,500 on suspension and tires when you could have spent it on a tune and bolt-ons. But delayed gratification wins here.

Build a car that handles like it’s on rails. Learn to drive it fast with stock power. Then, when you finally add the horsepower, you’ll have a weapon that dominates the street and the track.

Don’t build a glass cannon. Build a complete machine.

These accomplishments mean that the techniques and calibrations applied to your street or track car are race-proven at the highest levels of competition.

🔧 Why You Should Choose Solo Motorsports for Your Modifications

Performance is more than just installing parts; it’s about engineering a cohesive system. Solo Motorsports offers a comprehensive, race-focused approach to modification and tuning, particularly for German performance vehicles.

1. Dyno-Validated Custom Tuning

Simply flashing an off-the-shelf tune won’t unlock the best performance, especially when adding major hardware like downpipes, intakes, or turbos.

  • In-House Mustang Dyno: Solo Motorsports utilizes a state-of-the-art, 4WD, load-bearing Mustang Dynamometer for precise tuning. This allows their expert tuners to simulate real-world driving conditions and stress-test the engine map.
  • ECU & TCU Optimization: They offer custom dyno tunes for various fuel types (including E85 and race gas). This process meticulously adjusts air-to-fuel ratios, boost curves, and ignition timing to safely maximize power and torque from your specific setup. Furthermore, their expertise extends to TCU (Transmission Control Unit) tuning, which is vital for quick, firm shifts and correctly handling the increased torque from a modified engine.

2. Engineering and Fabrication Expertise

For true high-performance builds, a bolt-on approach isn’t enough.

  • Custom Fabrication: Their ability to custom-build parts and perform complex engine swaps (like the S54 Turbo swap into an E30 that won Fastest Four Door) shows a deep understanding of vehicle mechanics far beyond basic service.
  • Comprehensive Upgrades: From performance upgrades like turbo/supercharger installs and big brake kits to advanced suspension calibration and corner balancing, Solo ensures every component works in harmony, which is crucial for turning a powerful street car into a capable track machine.

3. Race-to-Road Reliability

Winning a GRIDLIFE Time Attack record requires a car to not only be fast but also to survive under extreme stress. This focus on reliability in a racing context translates directly to the longevity and safety of your modified daily driver.

When you bring your European performance car to Solo Motorsports, you’re not just getting parts installed; you are getting a setup that has been tested, calibrated, and proven in competition. You’re leveraging years of trackside experience to ensure your vehicle delivers maximum power and precision, safely and reliably, whether you’re commuting through Atlanta traffic or hitting the track on the weekend.

More Horsepower Puts Serious Stress on Your Transmission

Your transmission is the link between your engine and the pavement. When you add more horsepower, every internal component—gears, clutches, seals, shafts—faces more strain. Stock transmissions are engineered for factory power levels, not for high-boost power, nitrous hits, or high-torque builds. Solo Motorsports  offers High Horsepower Transmission Services, because:

Push a stock transmission too far and you’ll eventually deal with:

  • Slipping under load
  • Overheating fluid
  • Delayed or harsh shifts
  • Broken internal components
  • Total transmission failure

A rebuilt performance transmission is designed to prevent these issues by strengthening the components that take the biggest beating. It ensures your drivetrain can handle the added stress without giving up.

A Stronger Transmission Helps You Actually Use Your Power

One of the biggest perks of building your transmission isn’t just durability—it’s performance. A transmission built for higher horsepower helps your vehicle:

  • Shift quicker and more consistently
  • Deliver torque more efficiently
  • Stay responsive under full throttle
  • Put more power to the wheels instead of losing it to slip

Even a high-horsepower engine won’t feel fast if the transmission is struggling. An upgraded, performance-built transmission makes sure every bit of power goes exactly where it should.

Protect Your Build and Your Wallet

Let’s be real; performance mods aren’t cheap, and neither are High Horsepower Transmission Services. Turbo kits, superchargers, tunes, and engine builds are major investments. Rebuilding your transmission protects those upgrades by ensuring your drivetrain can handle the power safely and reliably. A proactive rebuild costs far less than replacing a destroyed transmission later. And with Solo Motorsports now handling transmission builds in-house, you get quality control, faster turnaround times, and a team that understands performance vehicles inside and out.

Improved Heat Management and Long-Term Reliability

More horsepower means more heat—and heat is the number one enemy of transmission longevity. With a performance-focused rebuild, you get upgrades designed to keep temperatures in check and improve overall operating stability. Better cooling and stronger internal components mean your transmission stays reliable, even during hard pulls, spirited driving, or track days.

Confidence Every Time You Hit the Gas

The biggest benefit of building your transmission for more horsepower is peace of mind. When your transmission is built to handle the power, you can enjoy your upgrades without worrying about whether the drivetrain will survive the next wide-open-throttle run. And now that Solo Motorsports offers in-house transmission building, you don’t have to go anywhere else to get it done right. You get a transmission built for your goals, your power level, and your driving style—all from a team you already trust.

Modifying a car is an emotional rollercoaster.

One minute you’re hyped about adding more power, and the next minute you’re wondering why your bank account is giving you the silent treatment. But once everything comes together, there’s nothing like the moment your car finally wakes up and says, “Let’s go!” But it can’t wake up with out Tuning those Performance Upgrades.

Take this Mercedes CLS550, for example. From the factory, it’s a luxurious, well-mannered cruiser pushing 402 horsepower. Sounds strong—until you remember it weighs over 4,000 pounds. That’s like asking a bodybuilder to sprint while giving his twin a piggyback ride. Power alone doesn’t tell the story; power-to-weight ratio does. This is why enthusiasts start chasing upgrades: bigger turbos, free-flowing intakes, high-volume fuel systems, exhaust systems that actually breathe, and sometimes even full engine builds with forged internals. (If you go that route, may your wallet rest in peace.)

The Starting Setup

For this CLS550, we kicked things off with a solid foundation of performance upgrades:

  • Black Boost Gen 2 Intakes
  • Black Boost Wide-Open Thermostat Bypass
  • Turbo-back valved exhaust kit
  • SMS ECU Stage 2+ Tune
  • SMS TCU Stage 2 Tune
  • Ghost Motorsports Ghost Link Coilovers

All great upgrades… but here’s the truth:

None of it works the way it should without proper tuning.

You can bolt the biggest turbo in the world onto a car, but without tuning, it’ll run like it’s doing a marathon while chain-smoking. Upgrade your fuel system without ECU calibration, and the engine will breathe like it has seasonal allergies. It won’t be fun, it won’t be fast—just confused.

The Role of Tuning: The Brain Behind the Build

This is where tuning performance upgrades becomes the hero of the story.

Anyone can install performance parts, but making all those parts work together seamlessly? That takes skill. At Solo Motorsports, tuning isn’t just a service—it’s a science and an art. You need someone who’s part engineer, part software developer, and just a tiny bit wizard.

So how does tuning actually work?

A tuner connects specialized software to the vehicle’s ECU (Engine Control Unit)—and often the TCU (Transmission Control Unit)—to monitor and adjust how the car behaves.

This is typically done on a dynamometer, AKA:

  • A dyno
  • A rolling road
  • That giant machine that makes your car look like it’s doing cardio

Some DIY tuners attempt this on public roads, which is… let’s just say “memorable.”

What the tuner looks for:

  • Air-fuel ratio (AFR)
  • Boost levels and turbo efficiency
  • Ignition timing
  • Engine load and knock detection
  • Intake air temps & coolant temps
  • Transmission shift timing and torque limits

These measurements show how the engine responds under different conditions. From there, the tuner adjusts the software so the engine makes more power safely, without knocking, overheating, or being pushed beyond its mechanical limits.

When tuning the transmission, shift points are recalibrated for:

  • Faster shifts
  • Higher torque capacity
  • Better power delivery
  • Less hesitation
  • Stronger, smoother acceleration

Basically, the car stops feeling like it just woke up from a nap and starts feeling like it’s had three shots of espresso.

Why It Matters

Tuning is the difference between:

  • A car running a marathon with pneumonia, or
  • A car running it with a jetpack strapped to its back

The hardware gives you the potential.

Tuning unleashes it.

When everything works together—fuel, air, timing, boost, and transmission logic—you get a car that’s not just faster, but smoother, more responsive, and far more reliable under power.

And that’s why tuning isn’t optional. It’s essential.

When you buy a sports car, the urge to start changing things hits you fast.

And I mean really fast. It’s the kind of feeling where you think, “Who needs a warranty? Let’s rip out the seats and drop in carbon-fiber buckets right now!” People have been doing this for years. If you talk to your dads American muscle-car buddy, he’ll probably tell you about the time he and his buddies rented a 1967 GT500 Mustang and swapped the engine with one from his own car in a single weekend… Wild right?

Today, car companies sell sports cars that already come packed with upgrades. But even then, new owners still can’t resist smashing their piggy banks to add more mods the second they get the keys.

Take this brand new BMW M2 for example; painted in a soft baby-blue color that looks calm and sweet… just don’t let that fool you. Under the hood is a 3-liter twin-turbo inline-6 engine with 480 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. It’s a two-door coupe that’s half luxury, half monster. With a price tag of about $68,000.

Compare that to the Mercedes SL550, which weighs in around the $115,000 mark. The Mercedes has a big 4.7-liter twin-turbo V8 with 449 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. On paper, the two cars are pretty evenly matched. The Mercedes has more torque, but the BMW has more horsepower and a way better price. You could save about $47,000 by picking the BMW – money you could happily spend on upgrades instead of, you know… paying your bills.

If I were shopping for a luxury sports coupe, that would be my exact thought process. And I’m guessing the owner of this baby blue M2 is thinking the same. They chose some smart upgrades that turn this quiet, friendly M2 into the kind of girlfriend your mom definitely won’t approve of.

Over the next week couple of weeks we’ll be installing:
  • CTS Cold Air Intake Kit
  • Catless Downpipes
  • Autotuner Unlock
  • Custom SMS Stage 2 ECU Tune
  • Custom SMS TCU Tune

These are solid first mods. They’ll wake the car up, give it a louder and meaner exhaust sound, and make the throttle feel snappier. With our custom SMS tunes, the power delivery should feel smoother and more direct. We Dial in all our SMS tunes on the dyno, and the owner gets before-and-after graphs to see the gains. Just like going to the gym each week, this M2 is about to start putting in reps – and it’s going to come out stronger.

Why Build a Special Edition Lamborghini Huracan?

I mean; Huracan’s are special to begin with; what makes this one so extra-special? Well to get to that, we’ll have to start at the beginning.

The History:

Sebring, Florida, isn’t known for much – except for its legendary racetrack, the Sebring International Raceway. Built on a decommissioned World War II Army Airfield, the racetrack’s layout was inspired by European Grand Prix circuits. The first 6-hour endurance race was held on New Year’s Eve in 1950, and just over a year later, the first 12-Hour race took place.

For 75 Years, Sebring has been the ultimate test of Endurance. Teams from around the world bring their best cars to battle Florida’s intense heat, unpredictable weather, and the track’s famously rough and bumpy pavement – all in preparation for one of the toughest races on Earth: The 24 Hours of Le Mans in France.

Florida actually hosts two of the most important endurance races in the world. The other one is the 24 Hours of Daytona, held at Daytona International Speedway – The same track that hosts NASCAR’s Daytona 500. The first Daytona endurance race started as a 3-hour event in 1962, but by 1966 had expanded into a full 24-hour race to match Le Mans. That first 24-hour race was won by Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby driving a Ford GT40 – Yes, the same win you probably remember from the movie Ford V Ferrari.

The Reason:

Together, the Daytona 24, the 12 Hours of Sebring, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans make up what fans call the Triple Crown of Endurance Racing. Daytona and Sebring kick off the North American Endurance Season while Le Mans stands as the Ultimate Global Challenge.

Winning any one of these races is an achievement – but winning both Daytona and Sebring in the same year? That’s something truly special. Doing it two years in a row? That’s legend – “wait for it… dary” Legendary! And that’s exactly what Lamborghini did in 2018 and 2019 with their Huracan GT3 EVO, run by Grasser Racing Team (GRT) and Paul Miller Racing.

The Result:

To celebrate that back-to-back “36 hours of Florida” sweep, Lamborghini built something unique: the Huracan Evo GT Celebration. Only 36 cars were made for the North American market – a nod to the total number of hours between the two endurance races.

Each car sported racing-inspired liveries that paid tribute to the GRT green and orange racing livery, with nine different color combinations available so every owner could make theirs one of a kind. The interior carried the same colors, with Alcantara racing seats and contrast stitching that made it feel straight out of the paddock. Under the hood, it packed the naturally aspirated 5.2L V10 engine, good from the factory for 640hp; and one of the best exhaust notes in the business.

Of course, if you’re reading this blog, you already know that nobody who buys a 1-of-36 Special Edition Lamborghini Huracan leaves it bone stock. So we gave it some upgrades: A VF supercharger, and our custom SMS tune, adding another 30hp over the off-the-shelf tune. During the dyno run, I stood about 20 feet behind the exhaust, and I swear I earned a tan just from the heat waves coming off it. This thing doesn’t just move, it rockets.

What’s better than a brand-new BMW M5 Hybrid?

Spending a ridiculous amount of money to make it even faster and louder, of course. BMW has always tried to mix speed, style, and luxury – and this new M5 might just be the perfect blend. Sure, BMW has had some plastic disasters in the past (looking at you, E36), but the 2025 G90 M5 is basically the final boss of sporty luxury sedans. When our customer dropped off his shiny new M5, he basically said, “I want to race it Saturday and drive grandma to church Sunday.” Challenge Accepted. Lets check out this SMS Tuned BMW M5

First, The Feel:

The M5’s interior is what happens when luxury and tech have a baby. Fancy Lights? Check. Seats that hug you like your mom? Double Check. Air conditioning that can melt your face or freeze your soul? Oh yeah. Even Aladdin’s magic carpet would be jealous of this ride.

The Mods (aka The Fun Stuff):

Here’s what we added to turn “Pretty Fast” into “Holy Shit!”:

  • KW V4 Coilovers – Adjustable suspension for the perfect stance.
  • SMS Tune – Because more power is always the answer.
  • RK Autowerks Billet Coolant Tank – Keeps things cool and Doesn’t melt like the stock plastic
  • RK Autowerks Down Pipes – To eliminate airflow restrictions out the turbos.
  • CSF Charge-Air Coolers – Helps the turbos breathe and keeps power consistent.
  • Akrapovic Evo Titanium Cat-Back Exhaust with Carbon Tips – Makes it sound like a thunderstorm and lets the air escape faster than your paycheck.
  • HRE Wheels
The result?

A car that burbles and pops like an angry jungle cat deciding if you’re lunch.

How It Drives:

Even with around 850-900 horsepower (yes, that’s almost 200 more than stock), this SMS Tuned BMW M5 is smooth and comfy. It’s firm enough to feel fast but soft enough to make you forget how much power is waiting under your right foot. In Comfort mode, it’s chill. In Sport mode, it’s a rocket with leather seats. Driving feels like being The Transporter with a grocery list. It’s both Rolls-Royce calm and GT# RS wild – Depending on your mood.

Final Thoughts:

This M5 proves BMW still owns the “Speed, Style, and Luxury” crown. You can track it on Saturday, take Mom to church Sunday, and scare your neighbors Monday. Basically, it’s the ultimate four door thrill ride – with manners.

The early 2000s was a great time for high-end exotic cars. Ferrari was producing beautiful sculptures of speed, while Schumacher’s Formula 1 domonation was building Ferrari fever.

I, as a child just like many others had die cast cars of Ferraris alongside other supercars daydreaming of the day when one of these super sexy cars would depreciate to the realm that I could possibly even afford a semi-practical exotic, shifting my daydreams to reality, but let’s be honest; it’s not gonna be a F430 anytime soon, because the value of these guys aint going anywhere south of 50,000.

These cars are in demand and value stays healthy all because Ferrari is innovative by definition, it’s equally honest that in the course of the Prancing Horse’s history, this particular model disputably made a huge impact.

The early 2000s was a great time for high-end sports cars, especially for the F430.

Every review I ever read of the car glowed with praise (and some not so much but they don’t know a masterpiece when they see one). The handling is fantastic.

This was the GodFather, the Don Corleone that started the now-cliche trope that the electronics actually helped the driving experience rather than detracted from it.

I think Jezza from Top Gear even called it the best car in the world, ever, and “would ever be, a divine presence, a distillation of all of man’s achievements into a single machine, or something like that.”

But enough chitchat, just enjoy our client Mike’s *meraviglioso* STG1-SMSTuned Ferrari.

The collective cult folklore that is known as the ZUPRA aka A80 aka the MK5 Supra has yet made its appearance in our Norcross location for some custom SMS-FABrication with an AMAZING sounding Titanium Exhaust from ARMYTRIX!

This setup features Armytrix’s Valvetronic system that allows you to switch between being quiet and being loud with the push of a button via the included remote or through the smartphone application; this works by tapping into a vacuum source on your engine and connecting it to the control module. 🔥

Aside from getting a brutal sound with the Valvetronic system open, you can also gain power, especially if your car is SMSTuned.

Depending on the car, modifications, and SMSTune, the valve being open will also the exhaust gas to flow more freely, as it does not have to pass through any muffler.

Lamborghini rang in its 50th birthday with this model of Lamborghini Aventador 50th Anniversario. Of course, in true Lambo fashion, only 100 models of this special Aventador were ever made.

With this prestigious title on its head like a crown this one now holds an even more *elusive* title” the ONE and only #SMSTuned one!

REFLKT

Lamborghini Aventador

The Aventador is an absolute statement car. Especially this one with it's Reflective motif & luscious scarlet interior it's hard not to notice. Like Ferruccio says "You buy a Ferrari when you want to be somebody, you buy a Lamborghini when you ARE somebody." In the olden days, performance cars had lithe, aerodynamic shapes to capture hearts and to cheat the wind (this one has a wing that utilizes three different positions to change to depending on driving conditions to help with aerodynamcy!) When someone does catch a glimpse of you howling by in your sinewy Italian machinery, any rubbernecking would be ephemeral. What’s wrong with the world, aren’t Lambos about speed, scissor-doors, and V12 insanity? OH Yes. They're also about SO MUCH MORE. When you hear the giant V12 screaming down a straightaway at 8500 RPM or gaze at the 355-section P-Zeros, it’s clear that this is a bona fide supercar, especially after it's been SMSTuned FUN FACT ABOUT THAT WING: The Aventador has three different wing positions to change depending on driving conditions..It stays flat against the body below 50 mph, but lifts to 4 degrees once you accelerate beyond that point. Once it's up, it will stay at that 4-degree position until speeds fall below 37 mph. Once you exceed 81 mph, the wing reaches its greatest angle, 11 degrees, which looks nifty in the rear view but provides "The Man" with a telltale sign that you're speeding 🙂 Keep your eyes peeled in our Dyno Vid for a glimpse of it in action!

G WAGON 4×4

Nothing quote embodies Boujee quite like a Mercedes G-Class, especially out here in Atlanta, where the players play. They’re everywhere, in bright and matte colors; the AMGs outnumber the standard G550s, and I’ve even seen a few Brabus-tuned ones in the past few months. But no G-Class sold in the U.S. up until this point can match the badassery of Our client Ash’s SMS-FAB / SMSTuned G550 4×4² – that’s “4×4 Squared.” It is the ultimate embodiment of everything exuberant. Say what you will about the candy coated paint job, its $25k. You’re wrong, it’s cool, and we absolutely love it.

We had a blast Tuning, modifying & creating custom built downpipes for this Benz! After having it for a few days we can say that this thing is just straight up NICE. You ask how nice the G550 is? Hella nice. I can tell you that this 4x4² bro-dozer is pretty much unstoppable – portal axles, an extra eight inches of ground clearance, and dual springs and struts at each wheel certainly does the trick. It’ll drive up steep, rocky hills. It’ll ford deep waters. It'll get over the speed bumps at Lenox Mall. And that’s before you put it in low range and lock the differentials I can say this is one Mercedes that would just love to get dirty. The Interior: It’s true, you get diamond-stitched Designo seats with Alcantara accents. There’s leather everywhere. Indeed, it’s a Mercedes-Benz. But it’s also $225,000, making it the most expensive of all G-Class variants, and in fact, the most expensive Mercedes vehicle behind the AMG S65 Coupe and Cabriolet. Of course, it’s already discontinued, so I guess that’s a moot point. To the owners we will see ya'll around Atlanta.
