Brabus Carbon Roof Wind Deflector for the Mercedes G-Wagon

The Brabus carbon roof wind deflector is a unique upgrade for the Mercedes G-Wagon that adds both aggressive styling and functional LED lighting. This particular G-Wagon recently came through Solo Motorsports for installation, and the carbon piece completely transforms the front profile of the vehicle.

The Mercedes G-Wagon is one of those vehicles that already stands out, but with the right upgrades it can look even more aggressive. One of the newest pieces we installed at Solo Motorsports is the Brabus Carbon Front Roof Wind Deflector with LED lights, and it completely changes the look of the front of the truck.

This particular G-Wagon came in looking for a few exterior upgrades, and the carbon roof deflector was one of the parts that really tied the whole build together.

What Is the Brabus Carbon Roof Deflector?

The Brabus Carbon Front Roof Wind Deflector mounts to the front edge of the G-Wagon roofline and features integrated LED lighting. The piece is made from real carbon fiber and follows the factory roof shape so it looks like it belongs on the vehicle rather than an aftermarket add-on.

On the G-Wagon we worked on, the carbon weave matches perfectly with the other exterior accents and gives the truck a much more aggressive front profile.

The integrated lights also make it a functional upgrade for owners who use their G-Class for off-road driving or just want additional visibility at night.

Why the Brabus Carbon Roof Deflector Looks Perfect on the G-Wagon

Carbon fiber upgrades have become extremely popular with Mercedes G63 AMG owners, and it’s easy to see why once you install a few pieces.

From high-performance racing to luxury show cars, custom wheels are the ultimate blend of engineering and art. While mass-produced wheels are cast in thousands, custom manufacturing focuses on precision, strength, and personalization.

Solo Motorsports has now expanded their expertise beyond world-class tuning and repair to offer full bespoke wheel manufacturing. They work directly with enthusiasts to bridge the gap between imagination and engineering, helping customers create their “perfect fantasy wheel” from the ground up.

 

1. The Design Phase: Turning Fantasy into Reality

The process begins with a vision. Whether you have a hand-drawn sketch or a specific aesthetic in mind, the journey starts with a deep consultation. At Solo Motorsports, this means discussing not just the look, but also the goals; be it track performance, a “slammed” show stance, or unique brake clearance for a big-brake kit.

Engineers use CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software to transform these ideas into a 3D model. Unlike factory wheels, these are engineered for a specific vehicle’s fender alignment and load rating. Before any metal is cut, the design undergoes Finite Element Analysis (FEA), a digital stress test that simulates real-world impacts to ensure the design is as safe as it is stylish.

2. Choosing the Construction

Depending on your budget and performance needs, you can choose from three primary builds:

  • Monoblock (1-Piece): Carved from a single solid cylinder. These are the lightest and stiffest options, ideal for racing.
  • 2-Piece: Features a separate center face and a barrel, allowing for specialized offsets.
  • 3-Piece: The pinnacle of customization. With a center face, inner lip, and outer lip bolted together, you can mix and match finishes and widths with extreme precision.

3. The Forging Process

The foundation of a premium custom wheel is 6061-T6 aluminum. Rather than “casting” (pouring molten metal into a mold), custom wheels are “forged.” A solid billet of aluminum is subjected to extreme heat and up to 10,000 tons of pressure. This process creates a much denser grain structure, allowing the wheel to be significantly thinner and lighter than a cast wheel without sacrificing structural integrity.

4. CNC Machining

Once the forged “blank” is ready, it enters a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) lathe.

  1. Lathe Turning: The blank is spun at high speeds to create the basic round profile.
  2. Milling: A high-speed drill bit carves out the intricate “fantasy” design: the spokes, lug holes, and weight-reduction pockets; exactly as approved in the 3D rendering.

5. Surface Finishing

This is where the artistic vision truly comes to life. Solo Motorsports offers virtually infinite finishing options to match a customer’s specific color palette:

  • Powder Coating: Durable, heat-cured colors in matte, satin, or gloss.
  • Brushing & Polishing: Hand-prepped textures that highlight the natural grain of the aluminum.
  • Anodizing: An electrochemical process that dyes the metal while keeping its metallic sheen.

6. Assembly and Testing

For multi-piece wheels, technicians hand-assemble the components using aerospace-grade hardware, torqued to exact specifications. Every wheel undergoes a Runout Test to ensure it is perfectly round within fractions of a millimeter, eliminating any potential for vibration.

Alright, so picture this: you need a car big enough to fit half your soccer team, but you also want it to move like a sports car. What do you do? You could grab a Mazda Protege5, maybe an Audi SQ7, or if your wallet’s feeling extra confident, a Lamborghini Urus. All solid picks. But honestly? If you want something fast, fun, and still has enough room for your kids and their gear – the only real answer is the BMW X3M Competition.

Let’s talk numbers first, because they’re kinda ridiculous. The X3M Competition packs a 3.0-Liter Twin-turbo Inline-6 that pumps out 510 Horsepower and 479 ft-lbs of torque. 0-60? 3.8 Seconds. Yeah, that’s faster than most “real” sports cars; and this thing’s an SUV! It’s basically a family car that went to the gym, bulked up, and decided it’s done taking minivans seriously.

Now maybe 510hp sounds like enough… But for some people (you know who you are) enough is never enough. This particular X3M Comp we’re looking at today has some upgrades, and not the kind you find on Amazon. Here’s a list of the goodies:

Third gear, 60mph, and the X-Drive system hooks in a way that’ll give you whiplash. You’ll be too busy being slammed back into your seat to even finish saying, “Woah!”

Okay, so here we get down to the brass ticky tacks. The Tank’s (I’m not all-capping it, sorry, I do that enough) body-on-frame design is the Jeep Wrangler JK’s body-on-frame design, with a new body stuck on top of that frame. And chassis. The 6.4-liter Hemi engine, ah ATL’s favorite engine, But the owner of this one isn’t doing burnouts infront of MB stadium, this one came directly to us to make this thing a speeding ticket magnet with our custom SMSTune

Water Flow + Bleeder

The water line quick connections on the core have enlarged inner diameters to improve flow. Reducing the restrictions here as much as possible returns the best possible flow for the air-to-water system. Better flow means the whole system can take advantage of not only the improved core, but also supporting systems like an upgraded heat exchanger

We also added a bleeder valve at the top of the charge air cooler to make the installation process a lot easier. Anyone who has installed a charge-air-cooler knows the frustration of getting all the air out. This bleeder value speeds up the process immensely and adds peace of mind that the system is properly bled before start up.

O-Rings / Gaskets

Each intake runner is machined for the OEM O-Rings with the factory style “teeth” to secure them (exclusive feature). This keeps the O-Rings from falling out during prep and installation. The Billet dowel pins between runners 1 and 2 as well as 5 and 6 both help secure the thermal rejection spacer

Nitrous / Methanol Ports

Our manifold also features individual 1/8″ NPT ports on the underside of each intake runner. These ports can be used for Nitrous or Methanol injection. Not only is the location of the ports optimal for directly injecting your preferred go fast juice, but they are also hidden from plain view. This allows for a stealthy installation that is easy to conceal from unwanted attention.

Top Feed Port Injection with Included Fuel Rail

An extruded fuel rail is included with our SMS-FAB manifold (Not Pictured) It can be attached to the outlet side of the manifold. The AN-8 fuel rail comes with feed and return -8 internal hex plug fittings from Radium Engineering for a plug and play installation.

  • Fuel rail aperture for each cylinder is an optimized 7mm opening for compatibility with most commonly used high performance injectors
  • Anodized CNC machined injector hats (qty 6) are included in the supplied hardware kit to accommodate short height injectors aka “shorties”

Vacuum and Parameter Pad

On the side of the manifold inlet, SMS-Fab has included a 3 port pad into the machining of the tank. This can be used to measure additional parameters or as an additional vacuum source. These three 1/8th NPT ports can be plugged with the included hardware kit if they are not used.

Air Inlet Divider

Another exclusive SMS-Fab feature is the inclusion of an air divider welded into the inlet side tank of the manifold. With the length of the design this increases the volume and velocity of air received to the back of the manifold to cylinder areas four, five, and six would be equal to the airflow passed through the front half of the manifold for cylinders one, two, and three.

Breather Ports for Inlet/Outlet of Water Tanks

Two 1/8th NPT ports are located on the top of the back water plate. These can be used to measure inlet/outlet water temps as well as used as breather ports to help in the bleeding procedure to ensure all air has been cleared from the water system. 1/8th NPT plugs come included in the supplied hardware kit. Please follow OEM BMW or Toyota bleeding procedure which takes roughly 15 minutes to complete.

WHEN FAST AINT FAST ENOUGH

 

We’re so proud to finally showcase our Bossman Boki’s commemorative Jahre M3!

One of the ways BMW M celebrated its 50th anniversary this year was by making a 50 Jahre version of the G80 BMW M3. This 50 Jahre model is mechanically identical to an M3 Competition but had unique visuals to separate themselves from the standard car and make them feel more special. The 50 was only available in five different, very special colors, one of which being BMW’s iconic Techno Violet which obviously our Boki has chosen.

Aside from exterior color, all 500 BMW M3 50 Jahre models had the same options. They all had the same M Forged wheels as the standard M3 Comp but finished in Orbit Grey. They also got loads of “50 Jahre” badges, color stripes in the cabin, and a carbon fiber package that added the lightweight stuff throughout both the exterior and interior. One mechanical upgrade it also got was an M Performance exhaust, made from both titanium and carbon fiber, but that wasn’t enough for Boki. he had to mark it as his own, enter version 1 of his build.

This M3 was destined to make big power the moment the keys landed in Boki’s possession. It’s known the BMW S58 engine is quite possibly one of the easiest platforms to crank out some insane numbers with little effort, making it hard not to keep stock.

V1 SMSTUNE +800WHP / 670WTQ

Phase 1 of this car includes our custom SMSTUNED ECU and TCU mods. All the software was fine-tuned by Boris himself in our Dyno Lab equipped with a Mustang Dyno in Norcross. Since the S58’s internals are pretty much bulletproof from factory we didn’t do much there til were ready for V2 of the build, since Boki can’t keep things stock you know h had to throw a larger engine coil cooler, trans cooler and hest exchanger from CSF at it alongside a set of our Custom SMS-Fab downpipes and accompanying 3.5in midpipes
